About Your
Meditation Coach

ABOUT ME AND MY MEDITATION
PRACTICE:
Hello, my
name is Julie Hodges and I am Your Meditation Coach.
I have
been a life coach since December 2002 and have been meditating since 1977.
I first
learned to meditate when I was 13 years old (I am 41 now). My piano teacher was a meditator and she suggested that meditating would help
me focus on my piano lessons. (She
was right.) I had heard and read
about meditating and was interested in how to do it. She taught me to look at a candle flame
and memorize it before turning off the light. I would hold the image in my mind. I meditated at her house before my
lessons.
I have
tried many different types of meditation, in addition to memorizing the candle
flame. I have also tried chanting,
concentrating on music, Eknath Easwaran’s 8 pointed approach, visualizing bubbles and
flower petals in the wind, breath counting, walking meditation, chakra and energy pathway
visualization. I’m sure there are
others, but that is what I can think of right now.
I
currently practice meditation using a mantra which I repeat silently, in my
mind, which is the method I have used for the past 3 years. I occasionally do a visualization or chanting
meditation if the mood strikes me.
I
meditate once or twice a day. If I
don’t meditate every day I feel like something is missing. With meditation I have time and space in
my day to commune with Spirit in a meaningful way. I lose all track
of time and space while I am experiencing the oneness of deep meditation,
yet my body/mind knows when 20 minutes has passed. Fascinating.
With
meditation I am able to remain calm in trying times. I could not have that calm without
meditation and my connection to Spirit.
It is that connection that allows me to have faith that all is in
its right time and for the good of all.
There is always a life lesson for me to learn and because I meditate
and am aware of that oneness, and I am free and able to learn lessons I
might otherwise ignore.
There have
been times in my life where I have gotten out of the meditation habit, but
I have always been brought back to it rather quickly. When I don’t meditate my life doesn’t run
nearly as smoothly as when I do meditate.
There is a palpable imbalance of my body, mind and spirit, as well
as a negative effect on my energy, focus and enthusiasm.
I LOVE MEDITATION AND AM EAGER TO
SHARE IT WITH YOU!

For as
long as I can remember, I have been interested in spiritual matters. I began practicing yoga and meditation at
the age of 13. I began the serious
study of dreams and dream interpretation when I was a teenager.
One of my
greatest passions is helping and serving others. I completed my 1st Degree
Reiki training in 1999 and became an Usui Reiki Master and Karuna
Reiki Master in 2001. In 1997, I
discovered life coaching as a way to get from Point A to Point B faster and
easier than ever before. In 2002, I
made the decision to be a coach and began studying. I have taken classes through Coachville’s School of Coaching, Certified Coach Intensive and
other training seminars, and Graduate School of Coaching. In July 2003, I attended the Anthony
Robbins’ live event “Unleash the Power Within”, where I walked on fire and
explored my own mind at a very deep level.
I also
love writing, reading, the outdoors (especially hiking and camping) and
travel. I dream of hiking the Inca
trail to Machu Picchu and buying an RV in which I will
travel the continent while coaching, practicing Reiki and writing travel
articles.
I am a
founding member of International Association of Coaches (IAC), a member of Coachville, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals
(ABMP) and Toastmasters International.
